September and October: the last rays of summer, the first scents of autumn
There's a moment of year when summer gently fades away and autumn starts to reveal itself in the colours of the landscape, the scent of ripe grapes and the delicate sound of the falling leaves.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia the calender is filling up, traditions are coming back to life and every weekend becomes an opportunity to discover, listen and taste.
- Fagagna, a town rich in historical traditions
In Fagagna, just a few steps away from Borgo Terra Village, the most awaited event of the year returns: the
Donkey Race (7th September) and the Palio dei Borghi, a competition between villages (
14th September).
Two Sundays when the village dresses up for the event with laughter, competitions and a genuine community spirit that involves everyone, even if only for a day.
- Walks through history and beauty
From 4th to 7th September, the medieval village of Valvasione goes back in time with its famous historical reenactment: the
Middle Ages in Valvasone.
Four days of markets, shows, costumes and ancient crafts that transform the historic centre into a real medieval village, rich in charm and unique atmosphere.
On
6th and 7th September the last two events with "
Walking through Villas&Castles" return, an elegant journey through historic residences of Friuli.
You can discover the charm of Brazzà Castle in Moruzzo and Casaforte Zorutti in Dolegna sul Collio, places that tell stories about nobility and landscapes of rare harmony.
And if you love ancient walls, mark
4 and 5 October in your diary for the awaited "
Castelli Aperti" weekend, which opens the doors of usually closed manors, revealing hidden courtyards, frescoed rooms and breath taking views.
- Seasonal flavours, border aromas
On
11th-14th September Udine becomes a great salon of taste with
Friuli Doc, the event that celebrates the region's food with excellence.
From 25th to 28th September, Gorizia becomes, on the other hand, the capital of taste with its
Gusti di Frontiera (Frontier Flavours): dozens of international cuisines, aromas from around the world, stalls and colours that enliven every corner of the city.
And when autumn becomes more intense, two important events arrive, featuring chestnuts and flying.
On
18th and 19th October, in Fagagna, the model aircraft club's
Barone Rosso evocative air-chestnut festival returns: non stop flights of model aircraft of all categories, wine and food stands, music and lots of fun for all ages. An unique event that combines wonder and conviviality.
- Voices, stories and broad horizons
From 17th to 21 st September, in Pordenone it's time for
Pordenonelegge, the book festival where hundreds of writers, journalists and thinkers meet to share ideas, words and visions.
An event for who love to lose themselves in the pages and find themselves in dialogues.
And on the other side of the region, Trieste prepares to live its icon:
the Barcolana (
3-12 October), the largest regatta of the world. Ten days of event on land and at sea, culminating in the great sailing challenge in the Gulf, amid colurful sails and overwhelming enthusiasm.
